Officers say a teenager was killed and another was hurt after a Wednesday night shooting in Mexico.

A news release sent out by the Mexico Public Safety Department Thursday morning said 17-year-old Tornez Burton died after the shooting and 17-year-old Jzyeshawn Palmer was shot in the leg.

According to the release, officers responded to the 900 block of Tyronn Lue Boulevard at 9:10 p.m. on a report of a shooting.

Burton was found at the scene with a single gunshot wound and taken by ambulance to SSM St. Mary's Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, the release said.

Officers say Palmer was also taken to the hospital after the shooting. Family members later took him to a Columbia hospital for further treatment.

Residents told officers Burton, Palmer and two others were fighting in the area after an earlier incident a few blocks away.

The release said one of the people pulled out a gun, fired approximately six shots, then ran from the scene.

The release did not say if any arrests had been made connected to the shooting.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to the public safety department at 573-473-5800 or Crimestoppers at 800-392-TIPS.
