JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Jefferson City police arrested a man accused of a shooting at the Capital Mall over the weekend.

The police department said in a release Wednesday afternoon 28-year-old Jernail Hickmon was arrested at a residence outside Jefferson City limits by SWAT officers and Cole County deputies.

Officers said video footage from the night of the shooting shows Hickmon aiming a gun at a vehicle.

Police said yesterday the mall shooting was connected to an arson investigation. A release sent out Tuesday said shots were fired in the air to break up a fight.

The Jefferson City Police Department said Tuesday investigators believe the incident began when a group of kids were looking for a particular boy to fight him.

Police said Hickmon was arrested with a gun that fired bullets consistent with shell casings found at the scene. Hickmon is a previously convicted felon and is not allowed to have a firearm, the release said.

According to the release, drugs were also found inside Hickmon's residence.

As of Wednesday afternoon, no charges have been filed in the shooting.

Hickmon faces two felony counts of assault linked to an incident outside a Jefferson City bar earlier this year. Court documents say Jernail and another person physically hit two people outside the Water Tower Bar and Grill on Rock Hill Road on March 20.
