Police: Woman hurt in Bodie Drive shooting
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Columbia police say a woman was injured in a shooting on Bodie Drive early Friday morning.
CPD Sgt. Mike Youtsey said officers were called to the 1400 block of Bodie Drive near Currituck Lane around 5:10 a.m.
Youtsey said one adult person was shot and had "non-life threatening injuries." He included two vehicles and multiple apartment buildings in the area were also struck by gunfire.
Police later said the victim was a 19-year-old woman. She was taken to a hospital in a private vehicle.
Detective Scott Decker said investigators believe the two houses that were hit were not the intended targets of the shooting.
An ABC 17 News crew said there were about two dozen evidence markers in the street and there was police tape up in the area.
"Most of the markers on the street I believe were shell casings," Decker said.
Youtsey said officers are investigating the shooting. As of Friday morning, police said it's unknown who was behind the shooting.
The crew said about eight police vehicles were at the scene.
A new police station is being built across the street from the shots fired on Bodie Drive Friday morning. It's being built in hopes to keep crime rate down in that area, said Councilman Mike Trapp.
“Having a constant police presence right there I think it could only help with that area. You know I am hoping that the police station will be a part of a turn around for Derby Ridge, that whole area really including the Bodie Drive area.”
The police station was supposed to be built starting in 2019 in North Columbia, but the construction got delayed due to Trump's Steel Tariffs, said Trapp.
