ELDON, Mo. (KMIZ)

A man shot by a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper early Wednesday has been charged with kidnapping and assault.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said in a news release that David E. Wallace, 34, of Eldon, was charged Wednesday with two counts of first-degree kidnapping and three counts of second-degree assault.

The patrol said earlier that Wallace was taken to the hospital after a possible hostage situation in Eldon.

According to a release from the highway patrol, troopers, Eldon police and Miller County deputies responded to a house in the 200 block of North Leeds Avenue around 4:17 a.m.

Highway Patrol Troop F spokesman Sgt. Scott White said troopers received a call that two females were being held in the residence by Wallace, who was armed with kitchen knives and gasoline.

The release said troopers made contact with the man, later identified as Wallace, and he then started throwing rocks and knives at officers.

Wallace's probable cause statement said officers entered the home through the front door and a bedroom window.

A trooper fired multiple times at Wallace multiple times, court documents said. The probable cause statement said at least one other officer had a gun drawn when the shooting happened.

Authorities say he was taken to an Osage Beach hospital by ambulance. Wallace remained hospitalized Wednesday. His bond was set at $500,000.

Troopers say no other people were hurt in the shooting.

According to the release, members of the highway patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control are investigating the incident.
