COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Boone County judge has denied bond for one of the two people charged in the death of an infant found in 2019.

Lavosha Daniels will remain in Boone County Jail without bond while waiting for trial.

Daniels is charged with one count of abandoning a corpse and one count of child endangerment resulting in the death of a child.

The father Staffone R. Fountain, 30, of Independence, Mo. is charged with first-degree murder and abandonment of a corpse in the death of Samone Daniels. Police believe the girl was between 4 to 5 months old when she died.

Last month Columbia Police announced the identity of the infant found in 2019 and charges against the parents after a letter was sent to police.

Daniels wrote that Fountain had been sleeping with the infant, according to the statement. The couple tried to perform CPR on the baby and Fountain put the child's body in a book bag and left it behind the store, the statement says. Daniels wrote that she "fled because she was scared and didn't know what to do," police allege.

Daniels has a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 21.
