August murder trial canceled for Jefferson City man

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

An August murder trial was canceled for a Jefferson City man according to online court records.

On Wednesday, a Camden County judge, prosecutors and the lawyer for 23-year-old Craig Hawkins Jr., agreed the trial should be canceled.

It is currently unknown why the trial was canceled or if it will be rescheduled.

Hawkins is charged with second-degree murder and first-degree assault in the fatal shooting of Vonza Watson at Lazy Gators on May 29, 2021.

Another Jefferson City man, Chad Brewer, 29, is also charged in the shooting with first-degree murder, delivery of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
