Boone County grand jury indicts man for alleged Jan. and March sexual assaults
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Boone County grand jury has indicted a man for two counts of first-degree rape for two separate incidents.
According to the indictment, Jay Strausbaugh is accused of raping two women. One woman was allegedly raped on Jan. 30 or 31, 2021 and the other woman was allegedly raped on March 4.
Both women were incapacitated or lacked the capacity to consent at the time of the incident according to the indictment.
The first victim told police in March that Strausbaugh sexually assaulted her and then wrote a note apologizing for it.
The letter stated that Strausbaugh shouldn't have had sex with the victim or should have asked for consent according to the probable cause statement.
According to court documents, the second victim told police that she was drinking at Strausbaugh's residence and started to fall asleep. The victim then woke up and was in a bed in the residence.
The victim told police that she remembers Strausbaugh being on top of her for one second before becoming unconscious again.
Strausbaugh was not given bond for the sexual assault and is still in Boone County Jail.
Strausbaugh's will be arraigned on June 7 at his next court date. On July 12, Strausbaugh will have a hearing.
