Columbia man charged after vehicle chase on Friday in west Columbia
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Columbia man is facing two criminal charges after he led police on a vehicle chase Friday afternoon in west Columbia that ended near the on-ramp to eastbound Interstate 70 from Stadium Boulevard.
A Boone County prosecutor has charged Patrick Hart with resisting arrest - creating a substantial risk of serious injury/death and operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner.
Police were reportedly looking for a red Mazda truck on Friday just before 3 p.m. after reports of the driver, Hart, had allegedly stolen a gun out of a vehicle. Police say that Hart evaded police near Clark Lane and the Highway 63 connector due to his driving at a high rate of speed, according to the probable cause statement.
Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers then spotted the vehicle on Interstate 70 and attempted to pull it over. However, Hart allegedly attempted to evade arrest again but ended up near the on-ramp to eastbound Interstate 70 from Stadium Boulevard.
Troopers say that Hart then left the vehicle and tried to hide in the woods north of the location. Hart was arrested and taken to the Boone County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
Hart is scheduled for a confinement docket hearing on July 20 and a preliminary hearing scheduled for August 11 at the Boone County Courthouse.
Hart does not have a defense attorney listed according to online court records.
