COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia Police Department Chief Jill Schlude said Friday that officers have arrested seven men and a minor in connection with a downtown shooting early on Halloween that left a woman with serious injuries.

Police Chief Jill Schlude announced that seven people have been arrested, and one minor was taken into custody in connection to the shooting on Halloween.

Schlude said the following people were arrested:

  • Iseah Jackson, 23, of Columbia, charged in federal court with being a felon with a gun;
  • Demarquen Allen, 28, of Columbia, charged in state court with unlawful use of a weapon-exhibiting and armed criminal action;
  • Kelvin Clark, 22, of Columbia, charged in state court with first-degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon-exhibiting and shooting at or from a vehicle;
  • Demarkus Cain Jr., 25, of Columbia, charged in state court with fourth-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon-exhibiting and shooting at or from a vehicle;
  • De'Koryon White, 23, of Columbia, charged in state court with armed criminal action, first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon-exhibiting;
  • Treyvale Cain-Raybon, 21, of Columbia, charged in state court with armed criminal action, first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon-exhibiting and shooting at or from a vehicle;
  • Detravion Coats, 21, of Columbia, charged in state court with armed criminal action, first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon-exhibiting and shooting at or from a vehicle;
  • A 16-year-old boy, of Columbia, detained on suspicion of armed criminal action, first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon-exhibiting and shooting at or from a vehicle.

The suspects were arrested between Saturday and Thursday.

White's arraignment was scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, according to court records.

Clark was arrested on Tuesday, Cain Jr. was arrested on Wednesday and the 16-year-old boy was taken into custody on Thursday for armed criminal action, first-degree assault, and unlawful use of a weapon.

A probable cause statement says surveillance cameras showed White shooting an AR-style pistol at a crowd of about 12 people in the alley near Sweet N' Things, in the 800 block of East Walnut Street.

The victim said she was walking along the street when she was shot. A bullet went into her back and exited her chest, according to court documents. Her condition has not been made public.

Officers found .223-caliber ammunition where White had been standing when he fired, according to the statement.

Federal prosecutors charged Cain-Raybon on Thursday with illegal gun possession. An affidavit from a Columbia Police Department investigator states that surveillance video from the Blue Note on Ninth Street showed Cain-Raybon fire a gun with an attached flashlight at another man.

Officers also found 9-mm Winchester rounds for a Luger pistol. Cain-Raybon is serving a suspended sentence for unlawful use of a weapon, a felony, court documents state.

Coats was charged this week with the same crime. Surveillance video also showed Coats firing a 9-mm handgun in the alley where the shooting took place, according to a federal affidavit.

Charges were filed earlier this week, but court documents indicate the case was sealed to not tip off suspects. White remained in the Boone County Jail on Friday on no bond.

Schlude said she and other officers believe the shooting stems from long-standing animosity between two groups, labeling it gang activity.

Police announced they are still searching for a suspect linked to the shooting for first-degree assault.
