A Columbia man was charged with two felonies after authorities say he assaulted another person.

Michael True, 54, was charged on Tuesday with first-degree domestic assault and first-degree property damage. He is being held at the Boone County Jail without bond. A court date has not been scheduled.

According to the probable cause statement, police were called to a residence on Monday after the caller heard a man yelling and another person crying. Police arrived at the residence and True allegedly refused to open the door, the statement says.

Police heard a man yelling and another person crying, and eventually were able to get into the residence, the statement says. Police wrote that True was attempting to hide in a dark hallway. The victim was seen crying with injuries to their head, face and leg, the statement says.

The victim also had older injuries from an assault that occurred last week, police wrote. Court documents claim True has assaulted the victim several times over the past year.

The victim allegedly told police that they were strangled by True on Thursday and True had thrown items at them and hit them on Monday. The victim lost consciousness during both recent assaults, the statement says.
