Richland man charged with statutory rape in Morgan County

MGN

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Richland, Missouri, man was charged on Thursday with first-degree statutory rape in Morgan County.

A warrant was issued for George Hancock and a $500,000 bond was set. He is not currently listed on the Morgan County Jail roster. A court date has not been scheduled.

The probable cause statement says that investigators were tipped off on Dec. 11 about a sexual assault after a witness discovered that the child victim had sexual messages on their cellphone from Hancock.

The witness called Hancock while he was driving and he crashed his vehicle into a rock bluff on Interstate 44 near mile marker 164, the statement says. Hancock had serious injuries and was brought to a hospital.

An interview with the victim was held at Kids Harbor House on Dec. 17, where they allegedly stated they met Hancock on the messaging application Discord in October or November 2023, the statement says. The first assault occurred in January 2024, the statement says.

Law enforcement spoke with Hancock on Dec. 18 and he claimed that he did not remember anything, the statement says. Law enforcement spoke with him again on Jan. 14 and he claimed he would not speak with them without a lawyer, court documents say.
