COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia police have arrested a man accused hitting someone in the head with a gun on Nov. 2, police wrote in a Friday press release.

Marquise Mathis, 44, was charged on Nov. 22 with wo counts of unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of armed criminal action, one count of second-degree assault and one count of illegal gun possession.

He is being held at the Boone County Jail without bond. An initial court appearance was set for Friday afternoon. He was also charged with obstructing government operations, a misdemeanor, on Friday.

According to court documents in previous reporting, a man claimed that Mathis was upset about some things that were said following a basketball game on Nov. 2 at Forum Boulevard Christian Church. The victim saw Mathis leave the church building and thought he was leaving the area, the probable cause statement says.

As the victim left the building, he saw Mathis holding a gun in the parking lot, the statement says. Mathis then allegedly threatened to kill the man and he hit the man in the head with the gun, the statement says. The gun apparently fired and damaged a vehicle as he struck the victim, court documents say.
