Columbia man accused of attacking elderly woman
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Columbia man has been charged with first-degree assault after he allegedly attacked his 73-year-old neighbor on Thursday.
Robert Bondick, 43, was arrested on Monday and is being held at the Boone County Jail without bond. A court date has not been scheduled.
A press release from the Columbia Police Department says law enforcement was called for a report of an assault in the 1200 block of Paquin Street after a 73-year-old woman was brought to University Hospital with serious injuries.
The probable cause statement says the woman’s injuries caused her to struggle to look at paperwork she was expected to sign. Police saw several injuries to her face, including swelling around her eye, the statement says.
The victim allegedly said that Bondick plays loud noise and disturbs her, the statement says. She had followed Bondick in the hallway but did not remember if she said anything before the attack ensued, the statement says. The victim also could not remember if she fell down during the assault, court documents say.
Police reviewed video footage allegedly showed Bondick attack the woman before she could enter a stairwell, the statement says. Bondick apparently knocked the woman to the ground and continued the attack, the statement says. The victim allegedly never fought back, court documents say.
Bondick spoke with police the same day of the attack and alleged that the woman chased him and threatened to kill him, court documents say. He claimed the woman spit in his eye and Bondick told police that he thought she was reaching for a knife, the statement says.
