Charges against one former corrections officer dismissed in inmate death case
JEFFESRON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Felony charges are no longer pending for one of four former corrections officers accused in the death of Othel Moore.
Cole County Prosecutor Locke Thompson told ABC 17 News in an email on Wednesday that charges are not pending for Aaron Brown, who was previously charged with second-degree felony murder and third-degree accessory to assault. Thompson did not give a reason for why charges were dismissed.
Three people are still charged with second-degree felony murder in the case: Bryanne Bradshaw, Jacob Case and Justin Leggins. Case and Leggins were also charged with third-degree accessory to assault while Bradshaw is charged with second-degree accessory to assault.
Bradshaw has a hearing scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11; while Case and Leggins were have hearings set for 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13.
Moore died in December 2023 in the Jefferson City Correctional Center and died from suffocation after choking on contents from his stomach after being put in a restraint, court documents say.
Lawyers for the family had released video in October that showed Moore being carted into a dry cell wearing restraints with a mask and helmet on his head.
The Missouri Justice Coalition has previously said he was excessively pepper sprayed by the JCCC Emergency Response Team before his head was covered with a hood, his body was wrapped and he was strapped to a restraint cart.
