COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Area law enforcement are searching for a driver involved in a Boone County chase.

Missouri State Highway Patrol spokesman Kyle Green told ABC 17 News in a text message Monday night that Boone County deputies tried to stop a vehicle for speeding. The vehicle drove eastbound on Interstate 70 and crashed near Midway, Green wrote. The driver of the vehicle then ran into the woods, Green wrote.

A Boone County Sheriff's Office spokesman said Tuesday morning that hit a guardrail at the top of the Midway exit. The driver ran away but a passenger was treated for minor injuries and deputies found a gun and drugs, the spokesman wrote.

The passenger was released.

Four Boone County Sheriff's deputy patrol vehicles, a Missouri State Highway Patrol vehicle and an ambulance were at the scene.

A Boone County deputy at the scene said there’s no threat to the public and law enforcement plans on looking at cameras in the area to determine where the driver ran to.

The scene cleared at 10:53 p.m.
