COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Boone County judge sentenced a Kirksville, Missouri, man Friday to 10 years in state prison for a deadly shooting.

Joshua Dudley, 24, was accused in the shooting death of Shavez Waage in the Moser's parking lot on Keen Street in 2022. Dudley was originally charged with second-degree murder but that charge was downgraded when he pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and first-degree attempted robbery.

Judge Joshua Devine sentenced Dudley to seven years for manslaughter and 10 years for attempted armed robbery.

Investigators used surveillance video to track down the vehicle Dudley and Loyal Martell, 23, were in. Court documents say Dudley and Martell met Waage in the Moser's parking lot with plans of robbing him, Dudley told police that Martell was the shooter.

Martell pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in August and in exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped three felony charges. Martell was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
