Jefferson City man pleads guilty to manslaughter in 2021 Lazy Gators shooting, sentenced 25 years

CAMDENTON, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Jefferson City man accused in the 2021 Memorial Day weekend shooting at Lazy Gators in Camden County has pleaded guilty to multiple felonies.

Chad Tariq Brewer, 32, pleaded guilty on Thursday to voluntary manslaughter, armed criminal action and delivery of a controlled substance. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison and was given credit for 1,196 days served. He is currently being held at the Camden County Jail, according to online jail records.

Brewer was previously charged with first-degree murder, delivery of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to previous reporting, Brewer is accused of shooting Vonza Watson in the abdomen and killing him after a fight on May 29, 2021.

Brewer was arrested at the scene after deputies allegedly found him with drugs. During the investigation, detectives gathered surveillance footage that allegedly showed Brewer shooting a handgun and then leaving the scene, according to previous reporting.
