MORGAN COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A man accused of murdering a Hallsville man in Morgan County in June appeared in court on Tuesday morning for an arraignment.

Chad Armstrong, 50, of Stover, was charged on Friday with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. He is being held at the Morgan County Jail without bond. Armstrong was booked into the jail at 3:30 p.m. Friday, jail records say.

Armstrong is accused of killing Beauford Wilson, 71, of Hallsville, in June. According to previous reporting, Wilson was found dead on June 30 against a tree near Beechnut Road, south of Stover. Court documents stated that Wilson's death could have occurred on June 29 and that gunshot wounds were found on his head, right calf and left arm.

At Tuesday morning's arraignment, Armstrong pleaded not guilty. During the hearing, he argued for why he should receive bond, but was denied after the court heard statements given by Wilson's daughter and son.

The next hearing is set for Tuesday, July 26.
