Inmate accused of assaulting another inmate at Morgan County Jail

MORGAN COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

An inmate at the Morgan County Jail was charged on Thursday with first-degree assault after he allegedly assaulted another inmate on June 13 at the Morgan County Jail.

Michael Hayden III, 35, of Versailles, is being held at the Morgan County Jail on a $100,000 bond. An arraignment is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Morgan County Courthouse.

Hayden was charged in another case with second-degree domestic assault and first-degree endangering the welfare of a child. A pretrial conference is set for 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 at the Morgan County Courthouse. A jury trial is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 2025.

According to the probable cause statement, an argument started over a mattress and the other inmate had several injuries, including a broken orbital socket and eye hemorrhage that will require surgery. Law officials saw blood on the walls, flood and bedding of a cell.

The other inmate allegedly had swelling on his left eye and his eye was nearly swollen shut, the statement says. He also had swelling on his lips, as well as blood on his clothes and face, the statement says.
