A 20-year-old Columbia man who was charged in a June 21, 2023, shooting in the 900 block of Jewell Avenue was booked into the Boone County Jail on Monday afternoon.

La’Treon Fulton, 20, was charged last year with second-degree assault and armed criminal action. He was booked into the Boone County Jail at 4:41 p.m. Monday and is being held without bond. An initial court appearance was held Tuesday afternoon. His next court date was not listed on Casenet, but jail records indicate he has a court appearance scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday, June 6.

According to court documents in previous reporting, Columbia police were dispatched on June 21 to a house on Jewell Avenue and found a man with a gunshot wound in chest. The victim was brought to University Hospital.

The victim allegedly told police that Fulton was handed a gun and Fulton allegedly said, “this me,” which meant Fulton was keeping the gun, the probable cause statement says. The victim allegedly tried to confront Fulton about keeping the gun before he was shot, the statement says.

Court records indicate that Fulton was also charged in 2022 with second-degree domestic assault.
