Additional pre-trial for University of Missouri fraternity hazing case set for Friday
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
An additional pre-trial for former University of Missouri fraternity member Ryan Delanty, 22, charged with hazing is set for Friday after Monday hearing.
Delanty, of Ballwin, is charged with felony hazing, second-degree assault and supplying alcohol to a minor in alcohol poisoning of Danny Santulli. Delanty was the "pledge dad" of Santulli when he became unresponsive after drinking at an October 2021 Phi Gamma Delta fraternity party.
According to court documents, Delanty "recklessly caused serious physical injury" to Santulli by giving him alcohol and encouraging him to drink it. Santulli was left unable to walk, talk or see after suffering a traumatic brain injury that night.
Jury selection in Delanty's trial is set to start at 9 a.m. May 21 in Boone County. The state plans to bring 70 prospective jurors in from Johnson County, according to the order Judge Kevin Crane issued after Monday hearing.
Several other defendants in the case have taken plea deals for misdemeanors, primarily supplying liquor to a minor. The cases of Benjamin Parres, of Chesterfield, and Samuel Lane of Benjamin Karl, of Columbia, are ongoing.
The Santulli family sued several fraternity members for personal injury and settled out of court.
