Columbia man charged after allegedly firing gun at man in December
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Columbia man was charged on Thursday after he was accused of shooting at another man at a Columbia apartment complex on Dec. 12.
Nicolas Rose, 26, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action. He is being held at the Boone County Jail on a $40,000 bond. An initial court appearance was held Thursday.
According to the heavily redacted probable cause statement, the victim allegedly told police that a man – later identified as Rose – approached him in a parking lot at an apartment complex and started yelling. The victim decided to continue walking away from Rose and go to his car, and then he heard a loud “boom,” after Rose shot at him. He then allegedly stated that Rose then threatened to kill him.
A woman began yelling at Rose to get in his truck because police were called, and he drove away, the statement says. Police found a shell casing on the sidewalk, the statement says.
The woman was arrested the next day on an unrelated warrant, the statement says. A search warrant was obtained to view her phone and multiple messages from Rose were found, including a photo of a gun.
Law enforcement showed the victim a Department of Revenue photo of Rose and the victim was able to confirm he was the man who shot at him, the statement says.
In an interview with law enforcement, Rose allegedly stated the gun in the photo sent to the woman was his and that he used it to fire a shot at the victim, the statement says. Rose allegedly told police that he thought the victim was going to break into a vehicle, so he yelled at him and after the victim did not acknowledge him, he fired a round, the statement says.
