The Mexico Public Safety Department learned that five guns were stolen after it and other law enforcement agencies chased a stolen white Toyota Camry on Friday morning.

According to a press release from the Mexico Public Safety Department, police were alerted of suspicious activity in the south-central part of Mexico. Officers tried to detain five-to-seven people dressed in dark clothing that were running in the area, the release states. The Camry was reported stolen from Columbia on March 17, the release states.

The release states that the suspects escaped and officers saw a white Toyota Camry head onto Route FF. An Audrain County Sheriff’s deputy saw the Camry on Highway 22 between Mexico and Centralia, the release states.

The Centralia Police Department used “stop sticks” on Highway 22 to deflate the front two tires, according to a post on its Facebook page. The Camry started going southbound on Highway 124, but stopped after it hit an embankment, according to the post. The people in the vehicle abandoned it and ran away, according to the release from Mexico police.
