A Linn woman was charged on Tuesday with financially exploiting an elderly person in Cole County.

Holly Kliethermes was accused of financially exploiting her father-in-law, according to court documents. A warrant for her arrest was issued on Wednesday and a $25,000 bond was set.

The probable cause statement says Kliethermes exploited her father-in-law from Nov. 4, 2021-Oct. 31, 2023. Court documents say Michael Kliethermes, Holly’s husband, obtained power of attorney over his father. The statement says the couple took $72,903.59 and didn’t pay for the victim’s nursing home care. Charges have not been filed against Michael Kliethermes, according to Casenet.

On Oct. 18, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services received a referral alleging financial exploitation, claiming that Michael Kliethermes was not paying for his father’s care at Stonebridge Senior Living. Court documents say a $47,000 balance was due.

The probable cause statement says that Michael Kliethermes obtained the power of attorney on Nov. 4, 2021, and the couple started using the account on Nov. 8, 2021, by paying for a bank Visa card.
