Columbia man charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action after shooting outside Walmart

Editor's note: Hollis' name has been corrected.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Columbia man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action after a deadly shooting outside a Walmart store.

Issac E. Hollis, 25, was in the Boone County Jail on Tuesday after being booked sometime Tuesday, according to online jail records. He was jailed without bond and a court date has not been set.

Police later said in a news release that Hollis had been arrested after the shooting outside the store on Conley Road.

The victim died in the hospital after being given first aid at the scene, police say.

According to a heavily redacted probable cause statement, multiple people saw the shooting occur. A witness told police they saw the victim walking away from Hollis when he was shot. Police said on Monday that the victim was a man. The victim has not been identified by police and their name was redacted in court documents. The victim was brought to University Hospital, where they died from their injuries, the statement says.

The probable cause statement says police saw multiple cartridge casings in the parking lot. There were 17 evidence markers placed around the lot, according to previous reporting.

Another witness allegedly told police that the victim and Hollis were arguing with each other at the Walmart. That witness allegedly said the victim was running away when they were shot. Neither of the first two witnesses listed saw the victim holding a weapon, the statement says. One of the witnesses told police that there was a pause before Hollis shot again. Another witness allegedly told police that Hollis was the only shooter.

Video footage from the Walmart allegedly showed Hollis arrive in a silver/gray vehicle and two other people arrived in a Ryder box truck, the statement says. The footage allegedly shows another person exit Hollis’ vehicle.

The victim and Hollis were allegedly seen yelling at each other in the video and Hollis shot the victim in the back as they walked to the vehicle, the statement says. Hollis was allegedly seen walking back to his vehicle and fired more shots as the victim tried to run away, the statement says.

Hollis allegedly told police that he did not see the victim holding a weapon and referred to the shooting as “unjustified,” court documents say.
