COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

More than 400 Boone Electric Cooperative members in Boone County were without electricity mid-morning Tuesday after a truck crashed into a utility pole and the driver ran.

The crash initially left about 68 meters without power, a Boone Electric spokesperson said. It was initially reported around 8:30 a.m.

By about 10:30 a.m., 404 cooperative members were without power in the Ashland area. The utility spokesperson said it could take several hours to restore power. The number was back down to 68 before noon.

The cooperative's online map showed the outage had been fixed by about 1 p.m.

The crash happened in the 13300 block of South Rangeline Road. Firefighters found heavy damage to the truck and the power pole sheared off, Southern Boone County Fire Chief James Bullard said.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office is investigating. It wasn't clear Tuesday whether the driver had been found.
