New Franklin couple accused of attempted bank robbery, illegal gun possession
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A federal grand jury has indicted a New Franklin couple for a September attempted bank robbery and illegally owning guns.
Jacob L. Hessing and Tristen N. Hessing, both 25, were indicted by a federal grand jury in Jefferson City on Feb. 27, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Missouri says in a news release. The indictment was unsealed Tuesday.
Federal investigators say Jacob Hessing tried to rob The Exchange Bank of Missouri in New Franklin on Sept. 9, 2023. Each of them is also charged with being a felon with a gun, which is illegal under state and federal law.
Jacob Hessing was in federal custody pending a Wednesday detention hearing. Tristen Hessing was released on bond.
Jacob Hessing has previous convictions for drug distribution and his wife has a conviction for felony drug possession.
The indictment also asks a court to force the Hessings to give up their guns and ammunition.
