A man was charged on Friday with sodomy and other felonies after authorities say he sexually assaulted a child in June.

Matthew Dakota Thompson, 23, was charged with first-degree sodomy, kidnapping, first-degree sexual abuse and fourth-degree child molestation. Casenet indicates his residence is in Vandalia, while the probable cause statement says he is from the state of California. Court records indicate a warrant was served Monday and a confined docket hearing is set for 11 a.m. Tuesday.

The victim described the attack with law enforcement on Thursday, according to the probable cause statement. Two witnesses told law enforcement that they confronted Thompson with screenshots of a conversation between Thompson and the underage victim, the statement says.

Thompson allegedly first told the victim the attack was by “his alter ego,” according to court documents. He told the two witnesses that the victim was drunk and he was not, the statement says.
