COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Kirksville man who was accused in a 2022 fatal shooting at a Moser’s parking lot on North Keene Street in Columbia pleaded guilty to two felonies on Monday.

Joshua Dudley, 24, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and first-degree attempted robbery, according to an email from Boone County Prosecutor Roger Johnson. He is set to be sentenced on April 29. Dudley is currently being held at the Boone County Jail. He was initially charged with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery and armed criminal action.

Another man – Loyal Martell, 23, of Holts Summit – was also charged in the shooting with first-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action. His next court date is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 4. Martell is also being held at the Boone County Jail without bond.

The two were accused in the shooting death of Shavez Waage. The pair were arrested in August 2022 and were identified from surveillance video, according to previous reporting.

Investigators used surveillance video to get the license plate number of the suspects' vehicle, according to court documents. Police in Kirksville found the vehicle and arrested Dudley, who told them he and Martel met Waage in the parking lot with plans of robbing him, according to court documents. Dudley allegedly told police that Martell was the shooter, court documents said.
