Two arrested in connection to Columbia supermarket homicide

Columbia Police arrested two people in connection to a homicide that occurred Saturday in the parking lot of Moser's Foods on North Keene Street.

Columbia Police responded to a report of shots fired at around 4:20 p.m. on Saturday and found a man victim with apparent gunshot wounds. Police later identified the victim as Shavez Avieon Waage, 22, of Columbia.

Officers attempted to provide medical aid at the scene. However, Waage was already deceased. His next of kin has been notified.

Loyal Martell, 22, of Holts Summit was arrested for first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action. Martell was taken into custody with the help of the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office, the Fulton Police Department and the Holts Summit Police Department.

Joshua Dudley, 22, of Kirksville, was arrested for second-degree murder, first-degree robbery and armed criminal action. Dudley was taken into custody with help of the Kirksville Police Department.

Martell and Dudley are both in custody at the Boone County Jail.

This is an ongoing investigation and police say more information may become available at another time.
