A 19-year-old Moberly man has been charged with several felonies after he was accused of assaulting someone in a parking lot and taking their belongings.

Jayden Kuhne was charged on Thursday with second-degree robbery, stealing and third-degree assault. He is being held at the Randolph County Jail on a $40,000 bond, according to jail records. A court date has not been set.

According to the probable cause statement, an alleged victim of an assault met with Moberly police on Sunday. He allegedly said he saw a vehicle in a parking lot near Rollins Street and recognized one of the people in the vehicle. The business name was redacted in the statement, but the vehicle was later described as being near a gas pump.

Someone in the vehicle said something to the victim, who was unable to hear them and he walked up to the vehicle, the statement says. The victim claimed a brief conversation occurred and he walked away. He then claimed in the statement that he heard a car door slam and was then assaulted, the statement says.

The victim told police that he realized his hat and bag containing prescription medicines were missing, the statement says. Police saw the victim had a bruise on his eye and a cut on his face, the statement says.

Police reviewed video of the incident and saw the victim approach the vehicle that was parked at a gas pump, the statement says. Kuhne got out of the business and went to the passenger side of the vehicle, and it allegedly showed the two talk, the statement says.

Kuhne was then allegedly seen hitting the victim and taking them to the ground before two people inside the vehicle jumped in, the statement says. Kuhne and the other two people then left the area in the vehicle, the statement says.

Police interviewed Kuhne later and he claimed that the victim walked up to the vehicle and started making inappropriate statements, according to court documents. Kuhne claimed the victim threatened to “blow up” the vehicle as he was walking away, which led to Kuhne attacking, the statement says.

Kuhne allegedly told police that he thought the fight ended once they went to the ground, court documents say. He said he blacked out and did not remember anything after that point, the statement says. Kuhne allegedly said he wasn’t aware he had the victim’s property until he was dropped off.
