COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Callaway County school was put on lockdown Wednesday morning because of a chase that ended nearby.

The North Callaway School District was on lockdown briefly during the chase, the Callaway County Sheriff's Office wrote on Facebook. Callaway County deputies helped Audrain County deputies during the pursuit, which ended near Callaway County Road 147 when the drivers tried to avoid spike strips and crashed into a fence, the sheriff's office says.

The driver ran but was arrested in a field north of the high school, the post says. Three other people were detained and no one was hurt.

The school district said in a statement that no one was allowed into or out of the building during the lockdown but internal operations were not disrupted.

The sheriff's office did not provide the driver's name.
