Man who admitted to manslaughter released from Moberly prison, indicted for perjury
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Boone County man sentenced to 11 years in prison for manslaughter was released Friday and indicted for perjury the same morning.
Charles Waddill was released from the Moberly Correctional Center on Friday, where he has been since 2021 after his guilty plea to involuntary manslaughter, leaving the scene of a crash and evidence tampering, according to a notice posted in his online criminal case listing. Waddill admitted to DWI in a 2019 crash that killed a pedestrian, Timothy Wilson.
Waddill was charged with perjury on the day of his release.
Court records say Waddill's conviction was overturned last month after he argued his counsel was ineffective. A grand jury indicted him Friday on charges that he either lied when pleading guilty or that he lied in his appeal.
The testimony at question involves whether Waddill washed blood from his vehicle to cover up the crime, as he admitted when pleading guilty, the indictment says.
Waddill remained free on his own recognizance after his release from prison, court records show.
A wrongful death lawsuit against Waddill and the company for which he was driving at the time of the crash was filed and quickly settled in January 2020.
