Charges filed against woman accused of shooting gun in Moberly
MOBERLY, Mo. (KMIZ)
The woman accused in a shots fired incident in Moberly that led to much of the city being locked down has been arrested.
The Moberly Police Department wrote on its Facebook page at 4:42 p.m. that "The suspect has been located and taken into custody with out incident or injuries." The department earlier asked residents in the central part of the city to stay inside their homes while officers searched.
Randolph County Prosecutor Stephanie Luntsford told ABC 17 News that Jeanette Tolson was accused of shooting the gun. Luntsford filed charges against Tolson on Friday, including armed criminal action and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon. A court date has not been set.
Tolson, 44, of Huntsville, appeared on the Randolph County Jail's online roster Friday evening. According to jail records, she is accused of armed criminal action. Charges have yet to appear on Casenet. Jail records indicate Tolson is being held on a 24-hour hold.
The department shared on its Facebook page just before 11 a.m. Friday officers were on the scene of a disturbance involving shots fired in the 100 block of Elizabeth Street.
Police said in a Facebook post -- posted at 1:18 p.m. -- that no injuries have been reported.
"All residents in this area are advised to stay inside their residences and lock their doors... If the suspect is observed do not approach and contact the Moberly Police Department immediately," an earlier post from 10:38 a.m. reads.
The shooter is described as a woman with red hair, wearing a pink top and blue jeans. Police said in both posts that the woman is considered armed and dangerous.
A grainy photo was released at 1:10 p.m. of the suspect.
The Moberly School District said out of caution students will stay inside until the threat is over.
Afternoon classes at the Early Childhood Learning Center have been canceled. The St. Pius X Church and school was on lockdown Friday afternoon as a precaution.
The Moberly Library was also on lockdown, according to a Facebook post from Little Dixie Regional Libraries.
The Boone Health Clinic in Moberly also closed in relation to the investigation, according to an email from a spokesperson.
"The clinic and lab were closed due to police advice regarding the active shooter at large," the email reads.
The Randolph County Sheriff's Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol are helping with the search.
Moberly Area Community College Athletics stated on social media that its start times for all athletic events have been pushed back, due to a lockdown.
MACC later said on social media that it went on a "soft lockdown," out of caution. The lockdown was lifted, following the woman's arrest, according to another social media post.
