Harrisburg man charged after allegedly trying to stab retail shopper, kick police officer
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Harrisburg man was arrested and charged after allegedly trying to stab a shopper at a Columbia Dollar General on Wednesday on Vandiver Drive.
Anthony Giboney, 61, was charged with second-degree assault and four-degree assault. He is being held at the Boone County Jail without bond. An initial court appearance is set for 1 p.m. Friday.
Officers arrived to the scene and were met with racial slurs yelled by Giboney, according to the probable cause statement. Giboney had a cut between his eyes, according to the statement. He was eventually detained and put in a patrol vehicle.
An alleged victim spoke with police, who stated he was standing at him when Giboney stared at him, called him a racial slur and walked towards the victim, court documents say. The victim had told Giboney to leave him alone and the clerk at the store told Giboney he needed to leave, according to the statement.
Giboney had allegedly threatened to bring back a knife and stab the shopper, according to the statement. He allegedly came back into the store with a “sharp object” and gestured a stabbing motion, the statement says. The victim then grabbed Giboney and threw him out of the way in order to protect himself, the statement says.
The victim -- listed in the probable cause statement – had no injuries. A witness allegedly told police that the victim was protecting himself. She apparently put herself between Giboney and the victim, after the victim tossed Giboney, the statement says.
According to the probable cause statement, the officer then brought Giboney to University Hospital to get a fit-for-confinement determination. Giboney allegedly threatened to kick the officer in the jaw hard enough so the officer’s “mother would not recognize” him. He tried to kick the officer in the head, but the officer was able to grab Giboney’s feet together and avoid injury, the statement says.
