COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A juvenile suspect in the May killing of a woman at her south Columbia home could be ordered to stand trial as an adult this winter.

A hearing to decide whether to try the juvenile as an adult is set for Dec. 8 in the Boone County Courthouse.

Detectives identified the juvenile as a suspect in the death of Janet Jago, 72, in the Highlands neighborhood of Columbia. Jago was shot at her home and later died in a hospital. Other information has been kept private because of laws guarding the privacy of juvenile suspects.

Officers were in an hourslong standoff in May with another suspect, Jermaine M. Burnett, 32, who had a long criminal record and was wanted on felony domestic assault charges. Police say Burnett died after apparently shooting himself in an apartment at Forest Village in south Columbia.

A judge ordered the certification hearing for the juvenile suspect after a hearing Friday.
