Man charged after allegedly trying to break into Jefferson City apartment with barbecue fork, shovel
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Linn, Missouri, man was charged after allegedly trying to break into an apartment with a barbecue fork, shovel and his body.
Brandon Burkhart, 26, is charged with first-degree attempted burglary and first-degree harassment. An arraignment is set for 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Cole County Circuit Court.
The victim woke up hearing a banging on the apartment door, looked out the window and saw Burkhart banging on the window with a barbecue fork, insisting to get in, according to the probable cause statement.
He then allegedly used a shovel to bang on the door and then thew his body against the door, according to the probable cause statement.
The victim woke up another occupant in the apartment, who heard Burkhart say, “Let me in, just let me in,” according to the probable cause statement.
Burkhart allegedly told police that he was with another man and was trying to get into the apartment, according to the statement. He then allegedly changed his story and said he was trying to get in because he thought he heard a disturbance in the apartment. Jefferson police found a syringe and needle with him, according to the probable cause statement.
