Southside Trops location burglarized overnight

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Tropical Liqueurs shared on its Facebook page that one of its locations was burglarized early Wednesday morning.

The business, which is a popular bar with two locations in Columbia, stated that one person smashed a window at its location at 3805 South Providence Road. There is another location in Downtown Columbia.

Trops – a nickname for the business -- shared a video in the comments that appears to show one person taking money from the cash register.

Trops also shared photos showing a smashed window.

“Unfortunately, around 1:20am today, an individual decided to smash out a window at our South location, vandalize the sno cone trailer and rob us. All physical damage can be fixed; we're extremely thankful all employees and Trops drinks are safe,” the Facebook post read. “We'd appreciate your help with trying to catch this thief. If you recognize him, please call the police. There will be Trops rewards given for successful tips reported. As always Columbia, we are thankful for our customers, our community and your continued support.”

A Columbia Police Department spokesman told ABC 17 News that police responded around 1:20 a.m. after an alarm was triggered.

"Upon arrival, officers observed property damage and learned that a suspect had broken into the establishment," CPD spokesman Christian Tabak wrote in an email. "The suspect had fled the scene prior to officers arriving. This is an ongoing investigation with the Department's Criminal Investigations Division."
