JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A California, Missouri, man who was recently released from jail was arrested again on Wednesday after a witness told law enforcement that the man planned to kill a judge and prosecutor.

Kody Sidebottom, 27, is charged with two counts of tampering with a judicial officer. He is being held without bond at the Cole County Jail. An arraignment was held Friday at the Cole County Circuit Court. A bond review hearing is set for 1 p.m. Thursday.

Sidebottom pleaded guilty on Tuesday to fourth-degree domestic assault and second-degree property damage. He was sentenced to two years of supervised probation with a suspended sentence of 180 days.

He had been incarcerated since February, according to the probable cause statement. An inmate at the jail allegedly told investigators that Sidebottom had told him he planned to kill the judge and prosecutor involved in his domestic violence case.

The witness told law enforcement that Sidebottom allegedly talked about using a revolver so no shell casings would be left, according to the probable cause statement. Sidebottom allegedly took notes on how to buy a gun online.

The statements were made within the past week, according to the statement. But the witness did not initially report them to law enforcement because Sidebottom allegedly told them that he’d be sentenced to several years in prison and wouldn’t be released. Sidebottom was released, which allegedly surprised the witness and he reported it.

Hours after Sidebottom was released from the jail, he was located again and apprehended, according to the statement. Sidebottom allegedly confessed to saying he was going to kill the judge and prosecutor in his case.

He allegedly told law enforcement that he made those statements while being frustrated about the case and didn’t intent to do it, according to the probable cause statement.
