A man accused of killing a pregnant woman and her unborn child in a crash will now have his case moved to Carroll County.

A judge granted Steven Garrett's request for a change of venue Tuesday, according to online court records.

Randolph County prosecutors charged Garrett in April with two counts of second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and four counts of DWI-related charges.

The head-on crash happened on Route M on April 6, killing 22-year-old Maya Stilwell. Court documents said that she was several months pregnant at the time. Stilwell's fiancé Conar Maylee and 2-year-old daughter Delilah Stilwell-Maylee were injured in the crash.

Garrett allegedly told troopers that he was texting his spouse when the crash happened. According to a probable cause statement, he also said that he knew that he was in the wrong lane and that he consumed “four or five drinks."

Garrett has previous convictions for DWI from 2005 and 2008. The probable cause statement lists a third DWI in 2009.

Online court records show Garrett's next court hearing is scheduled for June 27 at 10 a.m.
