Bond lowered for woman accused in infant death case
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Columbia woman who is accused of abandoning a baby’s corpse had her bond lowered Monday at a hearing at the Boone County Courthouse.
Lavosha Daniels, 31, is charged with abandoning a corpse and child endangerment. She was held without bond, but it was lowered Monday to $500,000. Daniels is being held at the Boone County Jail and has a hearing set for 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28.
Daniels appeared in court Monday by video from the jail.
Samone Daniels, who was 4-5 months old, was found dead outside of a tire store in 2019. The child was killed after they were allegedly strangled by Staffone Fountain.
Columbia Police Department Chief Geoff Jones said in June 2022 that the baby died two years before her remains were discovered.
A breakthrough in the case came when a person turned in a letter found June 14, 2022, at the Super 8 motel connecting the parents to the baby's remains, police said. Daniels, the baby's mother, wrote the letter and addressed it to CPD.
The baby’s father, Fountain, 31, of Independence, is charged with first-degree murder and abandoning a corpse. He is being held without bond in the Boone County Jail.
A jury trial for Fountain is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, according to Casenet. Another jury trial date is set for 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22.
