New Florence alderman charged with domestic assault
NEW FLORENCE, Mo. (KMIZ)
A New Florence alderman has been charged with second-degree domestic assault.
Ward 1 Alderman Andrew Johnson was arrested Sunday. The victim told deputies he and Johnson got into an argument about the cleanliness of a shed, according to the probable cause statement. Johnson allegedly grabbed the victim by the throat and strangled him.
The victim had a scratch on his arm and redness around his neck when deputies arrived, according to the statement. Johnson allegedly reiterated the same story to deputies.
The probable cause statement claims law enforcement has previously been to the residence for multiple domestic situations.
Johnson is being held at the Montgomery County Jail without bond. A bond review hearing was held Tuesday. Johnson appeared by video from the jail and the bond was ordered to remain the same.
A counsel status hearing is set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Montgomery County Courthouse.
