MOBERLY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A large law-enforcement presence was seen Tuesday night during a standoff in the 800 block of Franklin Street in Moberly.

One man was taken into custody. Sgt. Bobby Calvert, of the Moberly Police Department, said one man was taken into custody. Calvert told ABC 17 that communications received a call around 7 p.m. about an intoxicated person who shot a gun during the disturbance and ran away.

Franklin Street was blocked off. The scene cleared around 9:50 p.m.

"After a little bit, we did determine that the subject was barricaded inside the stairwell of this apartment building, which he did not have a residency or any no contact with," Calvert said. "So at that point, we evacuated the building. We called in the SWAT team and some other agencies. We were able to confirm he was inside and we took the subject into custody during custody now."

The person was detained using non-lethal force, according to police. He was brought to an area hospital for evaluation. The detained man's name was not released.

An ABC 17 News reporter saw at least 12 police officers and an ambulance at the scene. Several law-enforcement agencies were on the scene.

Police said this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.
