Sheriff’s office says no threat to public after man, child shot in Boone County

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Boone County Sheriff's Office had no new details to share Monday about a shooting that injured a man and girl on Demaret Drive.

The sheriff's office said Sunday that a man and a 9-year-old girl were shot after a disturbance in the 700 block of Demaret Drive just outside Columbia. Both had serious injuries and were taken to a hospital.

Sheriff's office Capt. Brian Leer said his agency is continuing to investigate the shooting. Deputies believe they have identified all the people involved in the shooting and that there's no threat to the public. No suspect has been arrested or charged in relation to the shooting.

Leer said Monday that the victims were sent to University Hospital but he did not know their conditions.

Neighbors on Monday afternoon told ABC 17 News about the shooting. They said they no longer feel safe or comfortable residing in the neighborhood, as crime like this happens frequently. Footage from a doorbell ring camera appears to display the sound of multiple gunshots, followed by screams from neighbors.

At least two deputies were seen walking throughout the neighborhood Monday afternoon questioning neighbors close by where the shooting occurred.

Leer declined to give details about what led up to the shooting, citing the ongoing investigation.
