Columbia man charged with several felonies after allegedly assaulting woman

A Columbia man is charged with several felonies after allegedly assaulting a woman on Jan. 10 at the LaQuinta Inn.

Jimmy Talton, 30, is charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, armed-criminal action, kidnapping, second-degree domestic assault, second-degree assault, unlawful possession of a gun and second-degree property damage. He is not listed on the Boone County Jail roster.

Columbia police were dispatched the to the LaQuinta Inn at the 2500 block of Interstate 70 Drive on Jan. 10 after a call stated a woman was assaulted with a gun. A woman who – according to the probable cause statement – was crying, looked like her face was swollen near her eyes and nose. She stated she was punched in the nose and thought it was broken. The victim stated Talton assaulted her and also broke her phone.

She and another person were sleeping when Talton knocked on their door. The victim cracked the door and Talton allegedly pushed the door open. Talton allegedly pushed the victim to the ground and threatened to kill both people in the room, according to the probable cause statement.

Talton allegedly pointed his gun at both people and demanded they give him all of their money, totaling about $500. After Talton broke the victim’s phone, he allegedly began strangling her. The victim stated they received text messages from Talton, which included: “I’m ready to go to jail and your not safe anywhere,” according to the probable cause statement.
