Man arrested for police chase, hitting multiple patrol cars

Audrain County deputies arrested a man Saturday following an overnight chase across Mid-Missouri.

The chase happened early Friday morning. Michael J. Brooks, formerly of Mexico, Missouri, is accused of leading law enforcement officers on a chase across parts of Montgomery, Callaway and Audrain counties.

Brooks was arrested for two counts of assaulting law enforcement, two counts of armed criminal action, one count of causing more than $25,000 of property damage and failure to yield to emergency vehicles. The warrant orders Brooks to be held with no bond.

According to the Audrain County Sheriff's Office, Brooks drove off after Montgomery City police officers tried to stop him for a violation early Friday morning.

Deputies said Brooks turned his vehicle around on Highway 821 near Highway 823 and hit two sheriff's office patrol vehicles. The crash caused minor damage to a Callaway County cruiser and heavy damage to an Audrain County patrol vehicle.

Deputies said the crash knocked an Audrain County deputy unconscious. The deputy was treated at the scene and later taken to a hospital.
