JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Columbia man was charged with several felonies after an alleged incident occurred during a custody exchange on Thursday, according to Jefferson City police.

The man's girlfriend got into an argument with his ex-girlfriend at her residence about money for child care. Once the children were brought to the vehicle by the girlfriend, she approached the children's mother, the ex-girlfriend, and continued to argue. The mother was then hit in the face, according to the probable cause statement.

The man was in the vehicle before getting out and showed he had a hand gun.

"I am going to air this place out," the man said, according to the probable cause statement.

The alleged victim believe he was going to fire the gun.

Police learned he is a convicted felon and not allowed to own a gun. He was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, third-degree assault and armed criminal action.

He is being held without bond at the Cole County Jail. An arraignment is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Cole County Circuit Court.

His girlfriend was charged with third-degree assault.
