Police: Ozark man charged with manslaughter in drunken driving crash

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

An Ozark man has been charged with several felonies after a Saturday night crash in Jefferson City that left one dead.

Robert Harris, 58, is charged with:

  • Second-degree involuntary manslaughter;
  • Driving while intoxicated - causing the death of another;
  • Driving while intoxicated - casuing serious personal injury;
  • Second-degree assault;
  • Armed criminal action.

The crash occurred on Country Club Drive at Rainbow Drive in Jefferson City. Harris' 2013 Toyota Highlander allegedly crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2020 Ford Fusion containing two passengers, according to a probable cause statement.

One of the passengers of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim was taken to a hospital in Columbia by ambulance.

Harris allegedly had watery eyes and slurred speech, according to the probable cause statement. Harris gave a breath sample, where his blood alcohol content was determined to be 0.118, above the legal limit to drive.

Harris allegedly told police he consumed three beers at the Mizzou football game and at Shakespeare's Pizza over a four-hour period.

Harris is being held at the Cole County Jail. An arraignment hearing was held Monday afternoon at the Cole County Circuit Court.
