Police: Man tried to strangle ex-girlfriend

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Jefferson City man was charged with second-degree domestic assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Randdell Craig, 38, allegedly went to his ex-girlfriend's residence to pick up his belongings when he attempted to strangle and strike her, according to a probable cause statement.

The alleged victim grabbed a gun to defend herself and Craig allegedly grabbed it and forced it from her hand. The woman had visible injuries, according to the statement.

Police later found Craig at his residence where he allegedly told officer he was in a physical altercation with the woman, but denied attempting to strangle her.

No bond was set. Craig has a previous charge for fourth-degree domestic assault and drug trafficking. A plea hearing is for those cases is scheduled for Nov. 22.
