Columbia man charged for firing gun in the air while intoxicated

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Columbia man was charged Tuesday for allegedly shooting a gun into the air while he was drunk.

Austin Wood, 22, is charged with unlawful use of a weapon while intoxicated, a felony.

Wood allegedly fired two or three rounds from an AR-15-style gun into the air outside of his apartment in the 2400 block of Nifong Boulevard, according to a probable cause statement.

His roommate allegedly told police that Wood went back to his room and left the gun outside of the door, which isn't something he would normally do. The roommate also stated Wood had been drinking.

Police said in the statement that Wood's face was red and was slurring his words.

Wood posted a $1,500 bond. An Initial appearance is set for 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 1 at the Boone County Courthouse.
